Description	:	Thomas J. McRae, 92, of Carlsbad, CA, former resident of Herington, died Monday, March 18th, 2013. He was born December 21st, 1920, near Shady Brook (north of Herington), the son of Samuel and Sophia (Blume) McRae. He began working at a Ford Dealership in Kansas City, before moving to Ft. Wayne, IN, from 1955 to 1973; and then moved to Oceanside, CA, from 1973 until his retirement Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, March 28th, 2013, at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel, with Rev. Wayne, IN, from 1955 to 1973; and then moved to Oceanside, CA, from 1973 until his retirement Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, March 28th, 2013, at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel, with Rev. Charles Norman officiating; burial will follow at the Sunset Hill Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 7:00pm until 8:00pm Wednesday, at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel. Mr. McRae was the oldest of seven (7) children. He began working after 8th grade. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, in the European, Africa, & Middle East Theaters of Action, with the Infantry's 24th Tank Battalion. He married Geraldene M. "Gerry" Liddell on May 24, 1947, in Olathe, KS, she preceded in death on April 3rd, 2000. He is also preceded in death by three (3) sisters (Betty Duren, Beth Pagenkopf, & Mildred Smith), and his parents. He is survived by his wife Nieves Aida of Carlsbad, CA; a daughter Janet Leininger (husband-Dennis) of Ft. Wayne, IN; a son Thomas L. McRae of Land O Lakes, FL; a sister Carol Deason of Topeka; and two (2) brothers: Don McRae (wife-Evelyn) of Peking, IL & Wayne McRae (wife-Louise) of Oak Grove, MO. He is also survived by four (4) grandchildren: Jon Leininger, Matt Leininger, Jacqui Barber, & Thomas S. McRae; and five (5) great-grandchildren (Mia, Simon, Seth, Sadie, Elena Leininger). Memorials requested to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Donor's Choice; and they may be sent in care of the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory, Herington Chapel, 404 S.
