Description	:	Thomas Kenney, an old settler and highly respected citizen, died at his home two and one half miles northeast of the city on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. He was 68 years of age and death was due to diabetes. His health had been poorly for some time but about two weeks ago his condition grew alarmingly worse. He was 68 years of age and death was due to diabetes. His health had been poorly for some time but about two weeks ago his condition grew alarmingly worse. Mr. Kenney was born in County Tipperary, Ireland, but came to this country about forty five years ago, and settled in Troy, New York. Later he removed to Janesville, Wis., and from there to Illinois. In 1875 he removed to Iowa and has resided on a farm ever since. Three children by his first wife are living, Luke of Chicago, Thomas of Hot Springs Arkansas, and Mrs. Ed Mahoney of this county. The two former were able to attend the funeral. Besides a loving wife, six other children survive, two girls and four boys. They are Mrs. William Eckley, Mrs. Dan Eckley, John, Frank, Daniel and Harry. Two are dead, Kate and Edward. The funeral was held yesterday at 10 o'clock from the Church of the Sacred Heart. A large gathering of old friends and neighbors were in attendance. Father Lenehan conducted the services and preached a short but eloquent sermon for the occasion. The remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery. The deceased was a man honest and sincere and respected by all that had the pleasure of meeting him. He was a hard worker, industrious, which probably hastened his death. A democrat by conviction he was always to be found at gatherings of that party.
