Tom was born in Clinton on January 12, 1949, the son of Leo and Mary (Cassady) Droste. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1966. Following high school Tom served with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Enterprise. He married Cheryl Bixler on October 2, 1976 in Clinton. Tom farmed on the family farm near Goose Lake. He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, Charlotte, Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 0238, the Goose Lake Lions Club, where he was the current President, a member of the County Zoning Board and Clerk of Center Township. He was an avid card player, a Red Cross blood donor, and enjoyed his morning coffee group. Tom is survived by his wife Cheryl; his daughter, Maria (Chris) Darnell of West Branch; his mother, Mary Droste of Clinton; 11 brothers and sisters, Mary (Bill) Bloom of Waukee, IA, Bernadette Droste of Davenport, William (Carol) Droste of Rosemount, MN, Therese (Jim) Juneau of Gretna, LA, Margaret (Terry) Jett of Spokane, WA, Don Droste of Clinton, Patricia (Mark) McNaghten of Spokane, WA, Judith (Barry) Buntemeyer of Goose Lake, Kathleen (Ron) Brueher of Hauser, ID, Ed Droste of Clinton and Sr. Catherine Joseph, OP (Paula) of Nashville, TN; his mother-in-law, Luella Bixler of Clarence, a brother-in-law, Doug (Mary) Bixler of Clarence; and several aunts and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Leo, his son, Matthew and father-in-law, Everett Bixler. Memorials may be made to Camp Courageous or the Goose Lake Lions Club.
