Biggar Brookings - Thomas L. Biggar was born on May 29, 1945 in Brook ings, SD the son of T. Alvin and Faye (Wagner) Biggar. He died on Monday, lanuary 27, 2003 at the United Retirement Center in Brookings at the age of 57years. Gus received his education in the Brookings School District and was a graduate of the Brookings High School in 1963. While living in Brookings, he was employed as a truck driver by Larson Manufacturing and later by Foster Trucking. The last two years, he lived in Sioux Falls and was a truck driver for Soukup Construction. He was an avid marksman specializing in .22 and .45 cat. pistol competitions. In 1984, he was the first South Dakotan to earn the title of "Distinguished Pistol Expert" for his accumulative tournament scores. The award is issued under the auspices of the Department of Army, Defense and Division of Civilian Marksmanship Program. As much as Gus enjoyed competitive shooting, it was the friends that he made along the way that he counted as his real trophies. Gus was a member of the National Rifle Association, a past member of the Beacon Hill Pistol Team, the Brookings County Conservation League and the BPOE 1490. He is survived by four sisters, Carole Henry (Robert) of Garden City, SD, Linda Hanson (Gerald) of Hot Springs, SD, Marsha Biggar of Sioux Falls, SD. and Deanna Rude (Alfred) of Brookings, SD; five nephews: two nieces; and a host of wonderful friends. Gus was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be 4 PM until 7 PM Thursday at Rude's Funeral Home, with a Prayer service at 7 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Graveside Services begin at II a.m. Saturday, February 1, 2003, at Greenwood Cemetery. Brookings, SD with Rev.
