Lowe, in the city of Hamilton. Chief of Police for the town of Almonte from 1895 until 1917 a continuous service of 22 years set something of a record in public service which many will remember with no small amount of appreciation. The positions of Chief of Police, Town Foreman, Tax Collector and Health Officer were held for many years by deceased and the duties were discharged in a highly satisfactory manner. Born Jan 12th, 1853 at Cedar Hill in Pakenham township, the son of the late Mr Samuel L. Lowry and Mary Kerr Stobo, the deceased had reached the goodly age of 80 years at the time of his death. About 50 years ago the deceased was married to Sarah Jane Hilliard, daughter of the late Daniel Hilliard of Pakenham. To this union there were born three sons and one daughter, namely, Mr Minor Lowry and Mr Allan Lowry, residing at Sault Ste Marie, Ont., also an infant son who died in childhood; Evelyn (Mrs C. Lowe of Hamilton, Ont) Mrs Lowry predeceased her husband about 23 years ago. After leaving the farm at Cedar Hill, he accepted the position of Chief of Police and Town foreman for the town of Almonte in 1895 which position he held continuously for 22 years. During those years it is interesting to relate that most of the Town's sidewalks and other municipal improvements were made. For about four years from 1917 the deceased was the superintendent of the County Industrial Farm at Perth, previous to his retiring from active work. For the past ten years Mr Lowry had resided with his daughter, Mrs Lowe at Hamilton. The remains were brought to Almonte on Tuesday morning's local and taken to the residence of his sister-in- law, Mrs John Lowry, Perth street. From there the funeral took place at 3.30 to the family plot Auld Kirk Cemetery. The service was conducted by the Rev C.D. McLellan of Bethany United Church. The pallbearers were Mr A.C. Wylie, Mr Walter James. Mr Joseph Brunette, Mr E. James, Dr J.K. Kelly and Mr M.J. McCabe. In recognition of his many years service in the municipality the flag was flown at half mast on the town hall during the day. The sympathy of the community is extended to the family in the loss which they have sustained Among those from a distance who attended the funeral were two sons A.F. and M.S. Lowry of Sault Ste Marie and a daughter (Evelyn) Mrs C. Lowe of Hamilton.
