Thomas Mitchell Davis, son of Leola (Cox) and Frank Davis, was born in Highmore on Nov. 23, 1921. He attended school in Highmore, graduating with the Class of 1939. He spent two years working near Hill City in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He then moved to California, where he took a position with the Lockheed Corporation earning 65 cents an hour. Tom served his country in the U.S. Marines, being inducted Aug. 8, 1942. Following his honorable discharge on Nov. 10, 1945, he returned to the Highmore/Harrold area, where he worked construction. He married Delores E. Schaefer at Harrold on Sept. 4, 1947. Tom worked on the railroad, farmed and worked at various businesses in Harrold. He then took a position with Sully Buttes Telephone Cooperative in Highmore. In 1958, he was assigned as their manager for the Hoven, Tolstoy, and Onaka areas, residing in Hoven. He retired in 1984 and remained living in Hoven the rest of his life. Tom was a member of St. Anthony's Church and had belonged to the Knights of Columbus. He was proud of his Marine service and belonged to the John J. Peters American Legion Post No. 159, Hoven, served on the State Legion Baseball Commission for several years, for which he helped with the national tournament in Rapid City, and he also belonged to the VFW. Tom enjoyed yard work and growing flowers. Tom enjoyed attending the College World Series in Omaha and rarely missed a game in the past 20 years. He is survived by two daughters: JeNeil (John) Brehmer of Omaha, Neb., and Donna (Terry) Klocker of Chadron, Neb.; one sister, Betty Eckstein of Highmore; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Lorraine Hoffman of Hoven. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on Dec. 12, 1981; one infant son (Larry); three brothers; and one great-grandson (Caden Klocker).
