The family moved to Des Moines, Iowa where Thomas graduated from Roosevelt High School. He married his wife Jacqueline in 1940 at Saint Paul Episcopal Church in Des Moines. During World War II Thomas served in the United States Army Air Forces as a navigator in Europe. The family moved to Des Moines, Iowa where Thomas graduated from Roosevelt High School. He married his wife Jacqueline in 1940 at Saint Paul Episcopal Church in Des Moines. After the war he attended Iowa State University and University of Chicago, then became a banker and worked at Security Savings Bank in Scranton, Iowa for 34 years, retiring as Vice President. Thomas was a member of the American Legion for seventy years. He loved doing crossword puzzles and eating cookies and ice cream. Thomas is survived by wife Jacqueline, daughters Sarah Durbala (George), Elizabeth Meahl (Starling), son Stephen (Margaret), five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, sister Joan Hughes and brother James Hunt. Thomas lived 96 years, 7 months and 17 days.
