Born Sept. 23, 1934, in Keokuk, he was the son of Thomas D. and Ressie (Crosley) Farrell. He married Shirley Thommen Beckman Sept. 14, 1973, in Blandensville, IL. He had lived around Montrose in his early years and the past 22 years in Carman. With an interest in horses, he became a jockey and rode in several circuits in St. Louis, Omaha and Ohio. He then worked as a horse trainer in California. He worked for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant from 1957 until 1975 when he became self employed and managed construction and roofing crews. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to hunt, fish and cook. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Tommy Farrell of Phoenix, AZ, Billy Joe Farrell of Cadillac, MI, Tim Beckman of Burlington, and Danny Beckman of Tacoma, WA; two daughters, Ann Quam of Gladstone, IL and Diane Snell of Berthoud, CO; six grandchildren; and one sister, Bonnie Balding Farrell of Carman. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at King-Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Farrell will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at King-Lynk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Shirley Bliven officiating. Burial will be in Harness Cemetery in Mount Sterling. A memorial has been established.
