Thomas was employed as a carpenter and joiner and was responsible for many of the houses and barns in his part of the county. -------------------------------------------- Thomas Pearson Thomas Pearson was born in Belmont county, Ohio, December 7, 1824, and was the oldest son of Jesse and Cynthia Sinclair - Pearson. In his early youth he, with his parents, moved to Morgan county, Ohio, where he grew to manhood. On January 16, 1853, he was married at Pennsville, Ohio, to Miss Mary Eves, who is a native of the same county as himself. Shortly after their marriage they came to Iowa, and in the fall of 1854 located upon the farm, two miles north of Springville, where he resided until the time of his death, October 24, 1903. Thomas Pearson was prominent among the early settlers of this county. By trade he was a carpenter and cabinet maker and followed this occupation for many years, building many of the houses in this part of the county, including the buildings now located upon his own farm. He served as township trustee and justice of the peace for several years. He was universally esteemed and respected as a man of sterling integrity and exemplary habits, and by his death the community loses one of its best citizens. Beside his aged wife he leaves eight children, namely J.C., J.M. and A.E., of this place, W.B. of Anamosa, J.L. of Columbia Falls, Montana, Mrs. J.M. Fields of Stone City, Mrs. T.C. Fields of Kansas and Mrs. Wm. Barrett of Alberta, N.W.T. They lost one daughter, Jennie, who married J.A. Hart. The deceased was also a brother of George and William Pearson of this place. The funeral services were held in the M.E. Church at Springville at 11 o'clock a.m. on Monday, October 26, conducted by Rev. Locke, assisted by Rev. Krome of the Presbyterian church and Rev. Wyvrick of Viola. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at Springville.
