Newspaper Article on Memorial Service: Civil War soldiers to be honored in ceremony April 26, 2012 @ 12:00 AM The Herald-Dispatch The Cadot-Blessing Camp No. 126 of Gallipolis, Ohio, will be conducting a rededication ceremony to the memory of two Civil War soldiers at the Miller Cemetery in Miller, Lawrence County, Ohio. The ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. on May 5. Members of the camp will open the ceremony with prayer, a history of the two brothers, introduction of family and guest and will conclude with the firing of an honor salute with Civil War period muskets followed by TAPS. About the two soldiers who will be honored: James M. Baker enlisted in Co: B, 45th Ky Mounted Infantry, US Volunteers on October 10, 1863 at Catlettsburg, Ky. He mustered out on Dec. 24, 1864, after having fought in more than 10 battles and skirmishes. Sergeant Baker participated in the pursuit of John Hunt Morgan and in June of 1864 was among the leading regiments of the assaulting column at the battle of Mt. Sterling, Ky. The regiment continued pursuing Morgan and was active in the battle of Cynthiana during which Morgan was finally defeated. Thomas R. Baker enlisted in Co: K, 2nd Regiment of the Ohio Cavalry on October 18, 1862 at Camp Wade in Cleveland, Ohio. After fighting in more than 26 battles, including defeating the Confederates at Blountsville and Hairston, Tenn., Corporal Baker was discharged for wounds received during the battle of Hanover Court House in Virginia. Thomas received his Certificate of Disability for Discharge from the Army on Jan. 10, 1865, while in Finley Hospital, Washington, D.C.
