The bullet went through the floor and mortally wounded ... Tom sitting at his table. He died shortly. And so ended the personal story of another pioneer. The Robinson log house still shows the bullet hole in the floor, sad token of a fatal moment in the household..."(1952 Silver Creek Centennial History) Manchester Press Aug. 16, 1889 "Death of Thomas Robinson Within a few days, there well known citizens of this section have been called to their last account by fatal accidents. The last of the three, Thomas Robinson, of Adams township, lost his life, Sunday forenoon, through the carelessness and disobedience of a lad, William Delacey, who was temporarily at work for him. The circumstances as related to us by his brother, Johnston Robinson, of this place, were as follows: The family had been at breakfast and had just risen from the table, and were attending to the necessary duties about the house. Mr. Robinson sat down with his chair tilted back against the wall. The lad, Delacey, knowing that in a cupboard above the stairs was a Winchester repeating rifle, and inspired by that craving to handle a gun which seem to be inherent in some boys, went to the cupboard, unlocked it and took out the rifle, and was busy with it when a son of Mr. Robinson came into the room. He at once told the boy to put up the gun, as he had no business with it, and turned to leave the room, when he heard the gun discharged. The muzzle of the rifle was pointed partly downward, and the ball passed through the floor, angling through a two by four joist, and through the the ceiling of the lower room, striking Mr. Robinson just forward of the arm on the left side and passing almost through his body, lodging in the vicinity of his right hip. It was terrible wound, and from the first there was no hope that Mr. Robinson could survive it. He died a few minutes before four o'clock the same day. His wife was at the house of his brother here, and she and Johnston Robinson were at once sent for, and happily reached his bedside before he died. Thomas Robinson was born in Ireland, but came to this country in 1842, and to Iowa in 1855. He moved upon the farm where he died in 1865. He had been a consistent and worthy member of the M. E. church since his boyhood, and was a man whose daily life entitled him to the universal respect and esteem felt for him by all who knew him. A good citizen, a faithful husband and an indulgent father, he leaves to his family the inheritance of an unspotted name. He leaves his wife, six children, and numerous other relatives and friends to mourn the loss they have sustained."
