Mr. Bradfield had benign poor health for several years, but was in his usual health when last seen. Mr. Bradfield was not seen Tuesday but this fact did not cause any special alarm to his friends as he often run out of town for a short visit with relatives. Wednesday morning about half past nine o'clock H. M. Hopkins inquired about Mr. Bradfield at the Lewis Bros. restaurant, where Bradfield had been accustomed to taking his meals, and upon being told that he had not been to his ears all day Tuesday, Mr. Hopkins decided to go to his room thinking that he might be ill. He found the door locked, but soon gained entrance and found Mr. Bradfield sitting in his chair, cold in death. A magazine was lying in his lap, showing that he had died very suddenly and without any struggle. A physician who was called decided that Mr. Bradfield had come to his death May 6, 1913 from apoplexy. He also decided that an inquest was not necessary. Thomas M. Bradfield was born in Summerset County, Pennsylvania on June 5, 1861 and was therefore 51 years, 11 months, and 1 day old at the time of his death. The deceased came from Pennsylvania to Iowa with his parents when a small child and located at Osceola and later moved to Chariton. In 1869 he came to Villisca with his parents and had made his home here ever since. Having lived here for forty-four years he was well known to almost every resident of Villisca and vicinity. He was a baker by trade and has worked in Villisca shops a greater part of his time until his health became such that he was unable to work and for the past six years had lived a retire life. His afflictions were many and he was a great sufferer, but to complain was entirely foreign to him. He was ever loyal to his friends and was not one to cause any trouble or concern himself with other people's affairs. He was a good citizen and ever ready to boot and to contribute to any cause for the good of the town. He was a member of the Elks Lodge at Creston and of the K. P. Lodge at Corning. The deceased is survived by one brother, John Bradfield of Fairfax, Missouri, and one sister, Mrs. Jennie Roberts of Council Bluffs, both of whom arrived here yesterday and remained for the funeral which will be held this afternoon, at half past two o'clock from the A.B. Wolfe undertaking parlors by the Elks lodge of Creston and the body will be taken to the Villisca Cemetery for interment. Villisca Review, Thursday, May 8 1913, page 1
