Perry Jr., 80, a Washington area lumber and building material dealer, died of respiratory failure March 25 at Bethesda Memorial Hospital in Boynton Beach, Fla., where he was spending the winter. He was a resident of Chevy Chase and Gulf Stream, Fla. Mr. Perry was born in Washington, the son of Thomas W. Perry Sr. and Mary Alice Perry. His father founded T.W. Perry Inc., a lumber and building material supplier, in 1911 in Chevy Chase. After graduating from St. Albans School and Benjamin Franklin Business School, he joined the family business. Mr. Perry orchestrated the company's transition from coal to heating oil and managed the lumber and hardware side. The company closed its Silver Spring operation in 1978 and expanded into the homeowner market with the opening of a Gaithersburg store in 1979. On behalf of the company, Mr. Perry received the home center of the year award from Building Material Supply magazine in 1985. Mr. Perry was an outdoorsman, hunter and wildlife enthusiast and was among the group that started the National Capital Chapter of Ducks Unlimited. He also was past chairman of the Bethesda-Chevy Chase YMCA, past president of the Bethesda Chevy Chase Rotary Club, St. Joseph's House in Silver Spring and the Nature Conservancy. He was a past board member of Citizens Savings & Loan and the Montgomery County Economic Advisory Council. Mr. Perry was a member of Chevy Chase United Methodist Church, the Chevy Chase Club and the Columbia Country Club. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Carter Perry of Chevy Chase and Gulf Stream; three children, Thomas W. Perry III of Ocean Ridge, Fla., Lynn Perry of Berkeley, Calif., and William P. Perry of Dailey, W.Va.; and five grandchildren.
