Description	:	Thomas (T.W.) Jones was born in Taylor County, West Virginia in 1837. In 1838 at the age of one his family, in company with his maternal grandmother's family, went to Indiana where his father, Levi, engaged in blacksmithing. He grew to manhood and received a common school education in Indiana. On the 12th of September 1854, he left Indiana with his family to come to Iowa. Read More	Thomas (T.W.) Jones was born in Taylor County, West Virginia in 1837. In 1838 at the age of one his family, in company with his maternal grandmother's family, went to Indiana where his father, Levi, engaged in blacksmithing. He grew to manhood and received a common school education in Indiana. On the 12th of September 1854, he left Indiana with his family to come to Iowa. They came through with horse teams, also bringing several head of cattle, and were twenty-two days on the road. They first settled in Buchanan County, spent the winter hunting for a permanent location, and finally found a location in Franklin County, Reeve Township. They had to travel to Hardin Co. to purchase hay and the market was along way away in Waterloo and Cedar Rapids. In the winter everything had to be hauled on sleds. They first lived in a rude cabin made of rough logs and in 1860 built a more modern home. T. W.'s father, Levi, was a farmer and blacksmith. Thomas Wayman. Jones married Mary Jane. St. Clair, originally from New York, in 1865 and all of their children, including Wentworth, were born in Franklin County. Mary Jane was born in Erie County, New York, and moved at the age of eight with her family first to Harvard, Illinois, and in 1863 to Franklin County. At the time of Thomas' death in 1921, four of their children remained in Franklin County. Thomas as well as his father were republicans and members of the Methodist church. His wife Mary Jane was a long time member of the Baptist church. Thomas held local offices in Franklin County and both Thomas and his father Levi Jones have biographical information written on them in the "History of Franklin County." Moved to Valentine, Nebraska in 1888 but returned to Iowa. Cause of death senility. In cemetery records.
