Description	:	THURMAN ALBERT CHAPMAN, 89, of Ona, went to his Heavenly Father peacefully on the 23rd of December, 2006. His life was full, well lived, generous, creative and productive. He, like the rest of his generation will be sorely missed. He leaves behind his wife Irene; his daughter, Shirley Kaye and her husband Jim Jarvis; a son, Donnie, and his wife Amy Chapman. He was special to his six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and they will miss Pappaw's laughter, his wisdom, rides in his wheelchair and getting him a cup of coffee. His step children, Dale and Barbara Lunsford, Tom and Bev Carver, Mark and Karen Lunsford and their children loved him dearly. Those preceding him were his children's beloved mother, Naomi Simpson Chapman; his sisters, Pearl Harshbarger, Ruby Harshbarger, Opal White, Pansy Lunsford, Ruth Kingery; two brothers, Vernon and Junior Chapman; nephew, Delmus Chapman and one son, Gary Lonn. He served his church, Beulah Ann Missionary Baptist Church, well as a visionary, former Trustee and member for over fifty years. He sat before the West Virginia Legislative body and heard a declaration read naming U.S. 60 through Ona the Thurman A. Chapman Highway. He was very proud of this honor. In the mid-1950s he designed the plow that buried telephone lines underground and is now used all over the country. His company, T.A. Chapman, Inc., was built from a pick-up truck, money borrowed from his parents, Allie and Cassie Chapman and a crew of family members, into a corporation that exists today. His true love was being a farmer and cattleman. His generosity to others will be long remembered by those he touched. Please join the family in telling him goodbye this Tuesday, December 26, 2006, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, and celebration of his life 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at Beulah Ann Missionary Baptist Church with visiting one hour prior to the service. He will rest on the hill top at Forest Memorial Park with others gone before. We love you Dad and you will be terribly missed ... but Heaven has a son walking home ... and one they will be very happy and proud to see. We all will join you and Mom later ... have a glorious journey. (Dec 26, 2006) WWI Enlistment Records, WWII Draft Cards, SSDI and SS Application records all list Thurman's date of birth as 4 May 1916. The tombstone is inscribed 1917.
