Memorial Thurston Washington Redding who was born in Wilkes County, N.C., September 27, 1826, Departed this life May 30, 1898. Aged 71 yrs., 8 mons. and 3 days. In 1850 he was married to Claracy Walker, a resident of his native state. To this union was born thirteen children, five daughters and eight sons. Four of these died in infancy and one in mature life, leaving the mother, three daughters and five sons surviving his death. Mr. Redding and his wife resided in North Carolina until 1856, when they removed to Wells County to permanently live. With the exception of the first year they have always resided on the old home farm near Barbers Mill. They, by their industry and economy, accumulated enough land and money to live comfortably in their old age and have been useful and good residents of the county. Mr Redding was a useful Christian from an early period and was one of the substantial members of the Methodist Episcopal Church just north of the village. It was largely due to his efforts that the class was organized. His wise counsel and advice will be greatly missed by not only the church but the entire community, which joins in saying, "Adieu, thy work has been well done, thy reward is in Heaven."
