John died at the age of just 43, 11 years after his second marriage at age 32 around 1893. His wife Isabelle, who was 23 at her marriage and a widow at 34, was left with the six children she had delivered in seven years. The children were ages 2 to 9, including a 6 year old girl who was deaf. There were also John's own two firstborn children from his first marriage. Isabelle's parents Anfin and Ingeborg, who were 74 and 70 in 1904, undoubtedly helped her finish raising the children. Two married sons Ole and Anders, and three other married daughters Brita, Anna, and Oline were living nearby, all with many children. This clan of children must have grown up performing heavy amounts of farm labor, just as children in Norway had done. Ingeborg got to see the birth of a great grandson John Oliver Gordon in 1920 three years before her passing. Children of Isabelle and John Gordon: ............... Annett, and had her first and only baby at age 39, a daughter named Thelma Louise. Thelma married Carl Hesse, and they had Tilda's only grandchild, a little boy named Thomas John Carl Hesse.) ............4. Irene Bertha Gordon Attleson 1899 (b. She had a baby at 44 and named him Gordon John after her father who had died when she was 5 years old. Her husband John J. Attleson died in a burn accident when the baby was 3 years old. Sadly this only child later died at age 25 in 1968 in a car accident.) ............5. Clarence J. Gordon 1901 (d. 1966, age 65, New Hampton, Chickasaw County, IA. Spouse Florence G. 1904-1989. Spouse Ella Aasen, b. 1904, d. 2005, age 101. One child, Loren J. Gordon.) OBITUARY: Tilda Elizabeth Gordon Annett. "New Hampton Tribune, October 1978. Tilda Annett Rites - Mrs. Tilda Annett, 80, died Tuesday, October 10, at her home. Funeral services were held at 1:30 pm Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the pastor, Rev. Bernard Oebser, officiating. Ruth Ann Upham was soloist and Dorothy Stolz was organist. Hymn selections included "Rock of Ages" and "Abide with Me". Interment was in the New Hampton Cemetery with neighbors Lando Mishak, James Wilson, Harold Heying, Robert Dee, William Manderfield and Vic DeBettignies serving as casketbearers. Tilda Elizabeth Gordon was born January 22, 1898 in Chickasaw County, the daughter of John and Ingeborg (Nundahl Throndson) Gordon. (Note: Tilda's father John Andrew Gordon died at age 43 when she was 6 years old.) She attended the rural schools and the Iowa School for the Deaf at Council Bluffs. She was united in marriage May 18, 1936 in Manchester to Lloyd Densmore Annett. The couple had lived in New Hampton since their marriage. Mrs. Annett is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Carl (Thelma) Hesse, Cedar Falls; a grandson, Thomas John Carl Hesse; and a sister, Mrs. Irene Attleson, New Hampton. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lloyd, on November 7, 1973; five brothers, Andrew, Alfred, Edward, Clarence and John Gordon, and one sister, Carrie." -------------------------
