"Tod" Canatsey, piano tuner and a mainstay of the Iola Municipal Band during his active life, died this morning at Sterling Heights Manor at the age of 86. Mr. Canatsey had been a resident at Sterling Heights for the past two years and had been in failing health. He was honored August 5, 1971, at the 100th anniversary of the Iola Municipal Band for his service to music in the community in general and his outstanding contribution to the band in particular. At the centennial concert Mr. Canatsey conducted the band in two numbers. A member of the band most of his adult life, Mr. Canatsey is given credit for keeping it alive in those years when interest waned. He served as its director on numerous occasions throught the years. Mr. Canatsey was born September 17, 1889 in Iola and lived here throughout his life. He attended Iola schools and married Ona Thompson on September 20, 1911. She died April 16 of this year. He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, the Iola Music Club and an honorary lifetime member of the Piano Technicians Guild. Surviving are a son, Gerald, of Brentwood, Missouri; a daughter, Mrs. Louis Buller of Iola, three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. A brother, Harry, and a sister, Eva, precided him in death. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Waugh-Yokum Funeral Home with the Rev. Willard Braker officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 7 until 8 o'clock. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery.
