De Boer Laid to Rest At Sioux Center Saturday (Sioux Center Correspondent) Mr. Tjeerd De Boer passed away early Wednesday evening, July 24th. 1946, at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 24 days. He had been failing in health for the past several months. De Boer Laid to Rest At Sioux Center Saturday (Sioux Center Correspondent) Mr. Tjeerd De Boer passed away early Wednesday evening, July 24th. 1946, at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 24 days. He had been failing in health for the past several months. Death came to him at the home of his children, Mr. and Mrs. John Mieras, with whom he had made his home for two years, after the passing away of Mrs. De Boer. He was born in Vriesland, Holland, on July 31, 1865. After a number of years he and his wife and four children came to America, and shortly after arriving they lost two children because of a disease contracted on the boat. They were buried in New Jersey. Soon after they moved to the middle west and settled on a farm west of Sioux Center, where a cyclone took all of their possessions. Another child died soon after that. They spent several years engaged in farming and then retired and moved into town. Mrs. De Boer passed away on December I8, 1943. Left to mourn his departure are the following children: Henry of Sioux Center, John of Remsen, Roy of Le Mars, George of Sioux Center, Margaret (Mrs. Bert Bartels) of Sioux Center and Alice (Mrs. John Mieras) of Sioux Center. Also 26 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Mr. De Boer was active in church life, having served as a consistory member at the First Reformed Church for 50 years, and he was also a superintendent of the Sunday School and a teacher in the Sunday School for 50 years. Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon July 27th at the John Mieras home and at the First Reformed Church. Rev. Bunsting officiated. Consistory members, both present and former members, attended the services in a body. Burial took place at the local cemetery and acting as pall bearers were his six grandsons, James De Boer, Evert De Boer, Jerald De Boer, Theron De Boer, Marvin De Boer and Herman De Vries.
