Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Fullerton, with the Rev. Richard Whiteing officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery at Fullerton, with military rites by American Legion Post 151 of Fullerton. Palmer-Santin Funeral Home in Fullerton is in charge of the arrangements. Tom was born Dec. 3, 1928, in rural Nance County to Charles and Mary (Roebuck) Syslo. He attended Krakow parochial school, District 34, and Fullerton High School. In his younger years, he enjoyed competing on the Fullerton baseball team. Tom served in the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean War from 1951-1953. He was a member of the 7th Infantry Division and served nine months on the front line in Korea. After returning to the States, he served in the 207th Military Police Company. On Nov. 28, 1959, he married Margaret Sliva from Columbus at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. He farmed in the southeast area of Fullerton for many years and was a part owner of Loup River Inn for eight years. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, American Legion, VFW, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He served on the District 23 School Board, ASC Committee, and East Newman Township Board. Tom loved his family and all the special times he spent with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed the outdoors, farming, and working in his shop. In addition to being an avid hunter and sports fan, most importantly, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and cherished by many relatives and friends. He is survived by his wife, Margie of Fullerton; three daughters and son-in-laws, Teresa and Pat Larsen of Fullerton, Becky and Tom Gdowski of Grand Island, Jeanie and Scott Fitzgerald of Lincoln; seven grandchildren, Tim, John, and Ryan Larsen, Jacob (Katy) Gdowski, Andy Gdowski, Bridget (Fitzgerald) Larm and husband, Patrick, and Brock Fitzgerald; brother, Charles (Celestine) Syslo of Omaha; sister-in-law, Virginia Syslo of Columbus; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Louie, Henry, John and Bennie; sisters-in-law, Eleonore, Lucille and Bernice; five sisters, Julia Paprocki, twins Mary and Ann, Mary Ann Schott and Angeline Philiotis; four brothers-in-law, Berney Paprocki, John Schott, Andrew Philliotis and Jerry Shanle; two nephews, Mark and Nick Syslo; and two nieces, Stephanie Syslo and Lori Brdicko.
