Burial will be at 1 p.m. in Groton Union Cemetery in Groton, S.D. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. She died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen. Tora Jennodine Flatten, daughter of Melvin Gustav and Petra Anna (Holen) Flatten was born March 20, 1915, in Clark, S.D. She graduated from Bradley High School with the class of 1933. She was united marriage to Oren Robert Mereness on Sept. 14, 1935. After a brief stay in California, the couple returned to farm for 36 years near Conde, S.D., where Jen was active in church and community activities before retiring to Aberdeen in 1971. On Sept. 27, 1972, Oren passed away. Jen then became very active as a traveler and an avid bowler, card player and volunteer in church and community organizations including The Red Cross, Gray Ladies, R.S.V.P., Sons of Norway, City Women's Club, International Order of Kings Daughters, The Moose and Zion Lutheran Church. She was then united marriage to Glen S. Wilson on Oct. 20, 1985, and Glen passed away on Jan. 9, 1987. Jen continued to make Aberdeen her home and on Dec. 27, 1987, she was united in marriage to Ivan E. Meyers. Ivan passed away Feb. 17, 1998. Survivors include one sister, Evelyn French, of Hopkins, Minn.; three nieces, Dianna Fae Keith, of Redmond, Wash., Donna Hearnen, of Conde, S.D., and Anita Seivert, of Lakewood, Wash.; three nephews, William French III and Francis Flatten, both of Plymouth, Minn., and Ronald Bymers, of Rochester, Minn.; stepchildren, Glenna Mastel, Don Wilson, Gary, George, Ivan Jr. and Paul Meyers and June Rouse; 18 step-grandchildren; 17 step-great-grandchildren; and friends. Her parents; husbands; two brothers, Alton and Dale Flatten; and one sister, Mavis Walz preceded her in death. Casketbearers will be David Fettig, Sam Fettig, Ethan Flatten and Teig Flatten.
