Description	:	The following information was provided by: Deidre Badker Torris (Thorris, Thomas) Neilsen Johnson was born June 4, 1848 at Auneland Haus, Hordaland, Norway to Nels Johannesen Johnson (Find A Grave Memorial# 126336436) and Annie Nielsdatter (Find A Grave Memorial# 50120036), the fifth of their seven children. His siblings were: Johan Nikolai, Martha Nielsdatter, Nels Nielsen, Martha Nielsdatter, Anna Maria and Andreas. He was baptized as Thorris Nielsen on June 25, 1848 at Haus Kirke (church) Haus, Hordaland, Norway. Torris emigrated to Columbia, Wisconsin in 1850 with his parents and siblings. He was baptized as Thorris Nielsen on June 25, 1848 at Haus Kirke (church) Haus, Hordaland, Norway. Torris emigrated to Columbia, Wisconsin in 1850 with his parents and siblings. The family moved in 1854 to Cedar township, Mitchell County, Iowa, first living in a cave above the Cedar River, west of Osage, Iowa. Torris' father had bought land to farm but died the next year, 1855. Torris' mother married a 2nd time two years later (1857). Found in the 1860 census at Mitchell, Mitchell, Iowa: Holden Peterson age 29, Annie 47, John Johnson 19, Nels Peterson 16, Thomas Peterson 12, Marthe 14, Mary 10. Torris' was recorded as Thomas Peterson but he was not adopted by Holden; it should have been Johnson, census taker error. Torris was confirmed on April 17, 1864 at the First Lutheran Church at St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa. He married Anna Gurina Hansen on February 3, 1873 at Lake Mills, Iowa.
