Tracy passed away Sunday, March 11, at his home in Fairmont. Tracy A. Horn was born March 20, 1917, in Nashua, Iowa. He attended elementary and high school in Osage, Iowa. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1940 with a degree in engineering. Tracy was called to active military duty in 1941. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and was stationed in the headquarters of General Douglas MacArthur in the Philippines. He was honorably discharged as Lt. Colonel in 1946. He was united in marriage to Jeannette M. Woodward on Sept. 7, 1942, at the home of the bride's parents near Osage. Tracy and Jeannette shared 68 years together before Jeannette passed away in 2010. After the war, they moved to Fairmont where Tracy worked as service manager at Fairmont Railway Motors (Harsco Corporation) until his retirement in 1983. Tracy enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and traveling. He took great pride in cultivating his beautiful vegetable garden and tending his apple trees. He was an active member of Fairmont United Methodist Church for many decades. Tracy and Jeannette's love of their family kept them involved in many of their grandchildren's activities until well past the time when all of them had graduated from college. Tracy will be remembered and admired for his personal strength, integrity, resourcefulness and independent spirit. His life exemplified the attributes of "The Greatest Generation" in every way. Left to cherish his memory are his three children, Bruce Horn (Carol), Robert Horn (Judy), Barb Tofte (Kirk); five grandchildren, Heather, Alyssa (Troy), Jon (Kristin), Sarah (Marie), Susie (Adam); six great-grandchildren; as well as extended family and friends.
