Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly, with the Rev. Paul Kelly officiating. Burial will be in the Manly Cemetery with military honors by members of Edward Tosel American Legion Post No. 110 of Manly and the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly, and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church. Truman William Schulte was born on Dec. 23, 1923, the son of Theodore and Pearl (Garl) Huisman, in Wellsburg. After his father's death in 1926, his mother married Earl Schulte in 1928 and they moved to Manly. Earl then adopted Truman. He received his education in country schools and at Hanlontown High School. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Irene Craig on June 25, 1944, in Manly. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Sept. 20, 1944, and served in the Philippines. He was awarded the Bronze Battle Star. After his honorable discharge on Nov. 17, 1946, he farmed in the Manly area until his retirement in 1978. Truman and Dorothy moved to Manly and built a new home and started their traveling adventures. His family was his life. If Grandma said no, Grandpa said yes. Truman enjoyed dancing and going to the Manly Senior Citizen Center. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly and was a former member of the church council, a life member of Edward Tosel American Legion Post No. 110 and the Mason City Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Association, served as president of the Manly Cemetery Association and was active in other community and civic organizations. Those thankful for sharing his life are his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Schulte of Manly; his children, Janet Monson of Manly, Cathy Skatter and her husband, Manford, of Joice, Bill Schulte and his wife, Jina, of Manly, and Ted Schulte and his wife, Patty, of Carmel, Ind.; 12 grandchildren, Charissa Goral and her husband, Chris, Travis Monson, Jason Schulte and his wife, Kathleen, Shelly Weise and her husband, Issac, Tamara Schulte, Daniel Skatter, and Brandon, Michael, Wendy, Billy, Mandy and Jesse Schulte; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Betty Brown of Mission, Texas, Marlene Schulte of Manly and Dolores Schulte of Manly; his mother-in-law, Birdie Craig, of Manly; as well as many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
