Description	:	U.S. ARMY Edward P. O'Shaughnessy, 86, of South Sioux City died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005 at his residence. A memorial mass will be held Thursday (today) at St. Michael Catholic Church in South Sioux City with the Rev. Dan Wittrock officiating. Ed was born Nov. 18, 1918 in Sioux City, Iowa the son of Edward Francis and Mary (Hassman) O'Shaughnessy. He graduated from Homer High School in 1936. He served with the Army from Jan. 6, 1941 to Nov. 9, 1945. While in the army he was awarded the purple heart. He married Zella Mae Sanford on Oct. 23, 1945 in Longview, Texas. They were married for 56 years before she passed away on June 8, 2002 in South Sioux City. He was a serviceman for IPS (Mid-American Energy) for many years. Ed was a member of the South Sioux City Fire Department for 48 years and served as fire chief for four of those years. He also sold fire safety equipment. Ed has always been active in the St. Michael Parish family. He helped to build St. Michael Catholic Church and helped tear down the old one. Ed worked with Msg. Quinn on the heating equipment for the new church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Parish Council. He served as President of the Holy Name Men's Society. He organized the Boy Scouts of St. Michael's and was instrumental in stating Bingo at St. Michael's. Survivors include his eldest son: William and his wife Carla O'Shaughnessy of San Jose, Cal., a daughter: Donna and her husband Lloyd Cain, Jr. of South Sioux City, a daughter-in-law: Elaine O'Shaughnessy of Salt Lake City, Utah, two sisters: Helen Howard of Emerson, Neb. and Margaret and her husband Alfred Jessen of Dakota City, Neb., six grandchildren: Michael, Angie, Christy and Cathy O'Shaughnessy, Sandra Mammen and Dan Thomas, one great grandson: Kael and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Zella, a son Patrick Joseph O'Shaughnessy, a brother: Frank Donnelly and a sister: Mary Rasmussen. Honorary pallbearers will be Leon and Randy Jessen, Larry Grove, Dick McCabe, Ron Collins, Bob Church and members of the South Sioux City Fire Department.
