Read More	Uriah Lawson Davis was born near Canadiagua, in Ontario county, New York, October 27, 1845, and passed into the Home on High from his home in Fairmont, Nebraska, October 17, 1932; aged eighty-six years, eleven months and twenty-one days. He was the eldest of five children--three brothers and two sisters, three of whom preceded him to the other shore. Yis youngest sister, Ceceilla Potter of Manchester, New York, survives him. He was married to Martha A. Foster at Reed's Corners, New York, January 18, 1869. To this union two children were born, Charles A. Davis of York and Byron D. Davis of Loup City, Nebraska. Mr. Davis came to Nebraska in 1883, and was followed by his family a year later. They moved to Fairmont in the spring of 1884 and later in the summer of that year, Mr. Davis purchased the Porter house north of the Burlington tracks, where he has resided ever since. He is survived by his widow, one sister, two sons, eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. He and his entire family united with the Fairmont Congregational church, April 19, 1886, where he remained a devoted member until his death. After his physical condition forbade church attendance, he was always greatly interested in all of the work of the church. For a number of years he was janitor at the Congregational church, until September, 1922. He felt like the Psalmist when he said, "I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness." It was the privilege of the writer to know him quite intimately during the past nine years and to have many conversations with him concerning the work of the Kingdom and his interest in the home to which he has now gone. There never was any doubt in his mind as to the future. For the past then years he had been quite frail of body, but strong in the spirit. When his pastor came to see him and inquired how he was, the almost invariable answer was "just a little lazy, but I'll be all right soon." and many times when we all thought he just could not get up again, he would say, "Oh, I'll be out again before long." Funeral services were held in the Federated church of Fairmont, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Isaac Cassel, the sermon being given by the former pastor, Dr. William F. Perry, now pastor of the Fourth Presbyterian church of Lincoln, and his body laid to rest in the Fairmont cemetery until Jesus comes again. Pallbearers were six great-nephews, sons of Burton and Henry Fisher. Relatives present from a distance were a granddaughter, Mrs. John Myer and son, Victor of Oak, a grandson, Kenneth Davis of Columbus and a nephew, Fay Foster of Lincoln.
