In the 1900 census, Uriah was living in Loudon Township, Carroll County, Ohio. He was listed as age 43 born January 1857 in Ohio, his wife Martha age 39 born October 1860 in Ohio, their children listed were, Mary A. age 17 born February 1883 and Jessie L. age 12 born... In the 1900 census, Uriah was living in Loudon Township, Carroll County, Ohio. He was listed as age 43 born January 1857 in Ohio, his wife Martha age 39 born October 1860 in Ohio, their children listed were, Mary A. age 17 born February 1883 and Jessie L. age 12 born February 1888, both born in Ohio. It also stated Uriah and Martha were married for 20 years, and had 3 children, only 2 were still living at that time. His obituary, date and paper is unknown at this time. Uriah P. Slates was born in Carroll County, Ohio, January 26, 1854, and departed this life October 28, 1931, at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 2 days. He was united in marriage with Miss Margaret Warner, March 30, 1878, to which union three children were born. Brother Slates united with the M. E. Church in the Spring of 1880, where he remained a faithful member until he removed from this community to Homeworth, Ohio, where he united with the Evangelical Church and remained faithful until he was transferred from Church Militant to the Church Triumphant. He leaves his beloved wife, who has walked by his side for 54 years, one son, Jesse Slates of Homeworth, one daughter, Jennie Porter of Scio; (one daughter Rosey Alice, having preceded him on death), six grandchildren, three brothers, two sisters, a number of other relatives and a host of friends to mourn his departure. In the passing of brother Slates the community has lost an obliging neighbor, the wife a loving and devoted companion, and the children an indulgent and loving father. May the grace of God sustain and comfort these friends in this trying ordeals through which they are passing. Thanks to friends and neighbors.
