Read More	Urias Agustus Nye July 26,1852-Jan 6,1925 Urias Augustus Nye Funeral Today Another of Stanton County’s pioneer settlers has joined that innumerable caravan that passes to the Far County and returns not. On Tuesday morning Jan 6, 1925, Urias Augustus Nye passed away after an illness of several months, at the age of 71 years, 5 months and 11 days. Every effort was made by his loved ones to stay the hand of death but in vain, for the weary wheels of life ceased to longer turn and the spirit took flight to that “Home over there” where pain is no more. He was born July 26, 1853 at Napoleon, Henry County, Ohio, and removed with his parents to Wood County, Ohio, at the age of 3 years. Here he lived until he was 15 years of age, when in 1868, the family came to Stanton County, Nebraska. His father Jonas Nye, became the first county superintendent of public instruction of the newly organized county. On January 1, 1878, he was united in marriage to Sarah E Bartholomew, who has cared tenderly for him and joins with the children and others in their mutual sorrow. Mr. Nye was converted when a lad at Custer, Ohio, and was an earnest young Christian, often walking three miles to the mid week prayer meeting. He kept his faith through the years and was a charter member of the Methodist church in Stanton. It was a blessing to his fellow worshipers when he led them in prayer, and his clean life preached well the gospel of the Master. He served in an official capacity and as a trustee signed the papers for the building of the first Methodist church in Stanton. It is to be noted that 40 years later, his son, Ervin, as a trustee signed papers for the present building. To say he was a good father is putting it too mildly, but the many intimate sacrifices made for his children are too scared to be publicly told. He leaves to mourn him today, the widow, Mrs. Nye, the children, Harry A Nye of Petersburg, Nebr, Mrs. Lillian B Linkead of Seattle, Washington, John Ervin Nye of Stanton, Nebr, Gertrude F Nye of Long Beach, Calif, and Harvey L Nye of Norfolk, Nebr. two brothers W H Nye of Orchard, Nebr, and J W Nye of Fullkerton, Nebr and nine grandchildren. The community is joined with these in paying tribute to the passing of this fine Christian gentleman. The funeral was conducted at the home by the pastor on January 8 1925 and the body was tenderly laid to rest in the Stanton Cemetery. [1925 Stanton Newspaper], Transcribed by Louis
