''''''' The Banner-Press (David City, Nebr.), April 13, 1961, p. 13, col. 1 Services Held For Lifelong Resident of Bruno Area Vaclav Wittera, 78, highly respected and lifelong resident of this locality, died quietly in his sleep at his home in Bruno on Monday evening, April 3, 1961. Funeral services were held Thursday morning, April 6, from St. Anthony’s Catholic church, the pastor, the Rev. Wenceslaus Sladky, offering the requiem High Mass at ten o’clock. Music was by the church choir, with Mrs. J. L. Smaus, Jr., organist. Burial was in the church cemetery. Members of the local Catholic Workman (KD) lodge, of which the deceased had been president for 25 years, and vice president at the present time, attended in a body. The pallbearers were nephews, Albin Kouba, Frank Kabourek and Cyril Palik, and K.D. members, Frank Novacek, Joseph A. Kozisek and Frank Rerucha. Vaclav Wittera, a son of Wenzel and Agnes (Schmid) Wittera, was born Nov. 26, 1882, at the farm east of Bruno homesteaded by his father. His marriage to Mary Kobza was solemnized at St. Anthony’s church on Nov. 17, 1908. His entire life, until moving to Bruno with his wife in 1918, was lived on the same farm. He is survived by his wife, Mary; a daughter, Estella, and son-in-law, James C. Miratsky, seven grandchildren, Janet, Judy, Joan, Jim, John, Jeanne and Joey Miratsky of Bruno; brother, Anton C. Wittera of Kearney, and a half-brother, John Wittera of Schuyler; four sisters, Sister M. Juliana, (Anastasia), Loretto Mother House, Nerinx, Ky., Mrs. Agnes Kouba and Mrs. Fanny Palik, David City, and Mrs. Anna Kabourek, Brainard. Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Mrs. Mathilda Kobza; half-sister, Mary Schmid and two half-brothers, Joseph of Crosby, Texas and Frank of Cheyenne Wells, Colo. and a grandson, Jimmy Anthony Miratsky who died April 1, 1944. Among those from a distance attending the funeral were Miss Marcella Kobza, Denver, Colo and Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Wittera, Kearney. Others were from Omaha, Lincoln, Schuyler, Staplehurst, Ulysses, Eagle, Bellwood, Columbus, Wahoo, Prague, Valparaiso, Shelby, David City, Brainard, Abie, Dodge and Rising City. __ p. 15, col. 3 CARD OF THANKS – Words cannot adequately express our deep appreciation of kindness shown us at the sudden death of our beloved husband and father.
