Description	:	HELENA - Valborg Anna "Val" (Erickson) Brosten, 85, of Helena, a 50-year resident of Great Falls, died of breast cancer Thursday in hospice care at her home in Helena. Survivors include 4 sons, a daughter, a brother, a sister-in-law, 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Val was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Alf Brosten; brothers Clifford Erickson and Harold Erickson; sisters Ruth Rosenbaum and Cora Rosenbaum; and a great-grandson, Max Wilson. Val was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Alf Brosten; brothers Clifford Erickson and Harold Erickson; sisters Ruth Rosenbaum and Cora Rosenbaum; and a great-grandson, Max Wilson. Val was born in Raleigh, Canada, and her family moved back to the Conrad, Mont., area when she was 2. She was raised on the family farm and as a young woman moved to Detroit Lakes, Minn. There she met Alf Brosten, a farmer in the Detroit Lakes area, and they were married June 7, 1949. In 1954, they moved to Great Falls. For many years, Val was a homemaker. She later worked in the Great Falls Public School Food Service, primarily as the baker at Longfellow School for 13 years until her retirement. Val was a great cook and made all of the Norwegian specialties. She loved to embroider, do cross-stitch and work in her flowerbeds. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and active in both the Altar Guild and WELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America).
