Description	:	Van Brown was born on April 28, 1933 to Valentine Vanmeter Root Brown and John E. Brown on their homestead in Chivington, CO. Van went to Chivington School. When Van was in his twenties, he went to California to work as a carpenter. He moved back to Colorado and worked at Home Oil. In 1959, he married Mary Ann Ortiz. In later years, Van... Read More	Van Brown was born on April 28, 1933 to Valentine Vanmeter Root Brown and John E. Brown on their homestead in Chivington, CO. Van went to Chivington School. When Van was in his twenties, he went to California to work as a carpenter. He moved back to Colorado and worked at Home Oil. In 1959, he married Mary Ann Ortiz. In July of 1960 the twins were born, Johnnie Lou and Peggy Sue. The two years later, came Van Hugh Jr. During this time, Van and Mary Ann owned and operated Frontier Truck Stop and Cafe. In later years, Van and his brother Wesley started a custom hay hauling business. In 1980, Van began working for Kiowa County Road and Bridge, and he retired in 2001 after dedicating 21 years to the county. Van enjoyed his grandchildren very much. He wanted them to be successful in their careers, and he knew that would require a good education. His next duty in life was to take care of his pets, Oscar and Princess, and his many grand-pets. He was in hight demand, giving the animals rides up and down the hall on his scooter. Van passed away peacefully January 16 2011 at his home in Eads, his wife Mary Ann by his side. Van is preceded in death by his mother Valentine Vanmeter Brown, his father John Brown, his sisters Floy Mays, Sally Mays, and his brother John Weslet Brown. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann Brown of the family home, his brother Tom and his wife Lorine Brown, by his sister-inlaw Harriet Brown, by his brother-inlaw Johnnie Mays; by his children Johnnie Lou Brown, Peggy Sue and her husband Carl Blodgett, Van and his wife Le Anna Brown Jr., and his grandchildren Lacy and Husband Abe Queen, Ashley Brown and her fiance George Ferguson III, Victor Brown, Joseph Blodgett, Makenzia Blodgett and Michael Blodgett, and great-grandchildren Rylee Queen, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Visitation and funeral services for Van H Brown, Sr. are under the direction of Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel in Lamar, providing families with sensitivity, compassion, and respect
