Description	:	Varnel A. (Dub) King of Clarksville, age 85, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, November 9th, 2007. He was born in Ludwig, the son of Hubert and Nettie King on Aug. 5th, 1922. Dub was a 1940 graduate of Clarksville High School and a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church. He volunteered for flying duty in World War II, serving as radio operator in C-46s and C-47s over the Himalayas in the China-Burma-India theater of operations. (Dub) King of Clarksville, age 85, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, November 9th, 2007. He was born in Ludwig, the son of Hubert and Nettie King on Aug. 5th, 1922. Dub was a 1940 graduate of Clarksville High School and a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church. He volunteered for flying duty in World War II, serving as radio operator in C-46s and C-47s over the Himalayas in the China-Burma-India theater of operations. He returned to Johnson County to earn a business degree from The College of the Ozarks. For 43 years, he was operations manager and later general manager of Eureka Brick and Tile. He retired in 1999 and remained active with his family, the church, his farm and his gardens. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Lola Brock and Ann Nichols, and by his daughter, Lisa. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Vivian King; son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Betty King of Clarkdale, Ariz.; grandchildren, Lauren King of Tallahassee, Fla., and Scott King of Clarkdale, Ariz.; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 13th, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Hanshaw officiating. Burial was in Mt Airy Cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
