Read More	Vaughan Herbert Cogswell, 89 passed away Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at his residence after a period of failing health. Born June 23, 1911, in Fort Fairfield, Maine, he was the son of Ola R. and Zella (Carson) Cogswell. He was a graduate of the University of Maine with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1932, and he was a member of Beta Kappa at the University. A veteran, he served as a quartermaster in the U. S. Army during World War II. A resident of Dover, N.H., since 1947, when he purchased one of the earliest International Harvester businesses in New England, he became president, owner and operator of V.H. Cogswell, Inc. for 35 years, selling and servicing farm machinery. He was a summer resident of Merrymeeting Lake, New Durham, N.H., since 1949 and a winter resident of Green Valley since 1978. Vaughan was a very active member of the First Parish Church of Dover and was associate member of the Valley Presbyterian Church of Green Valley. He was a former member of the Dover Rotary and past president in 1952-1953; a member of the Eureka Masonic Lodge, No. 70 of Concord, N.H.; a member of the Bektash Shrine of New Hampshire; past president of the Cochecho Country Club of Dover and the Elks of Green Valley; and a former Garrison Players actor. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlotte (Parker) Cogswell who died in 1974, and a sister, Ruth Brown. Survivors include: His wife, Barbara Edith (Cooper) Cogswell of New Durham; a son, Vaughan Skip' H. Cogswell, Jr. of Los Angeles; two stepsons, Mark Thompson of Center Strafford, N.H., and Boyen Thompson of Bow Lake, N.H.; two stepdaughters, Betsy T. Booth and Sandra T. Grigg, both of New Durham. Also, beloved grandchildren Peter Grigg, Darby Norton, Jessica Baker, Noah Thompson, Ryan, Robert and Randall Booth, Elizabeth and Benjamin Thompson; great-granddaughter, Hannah Cooper Norton; one sister, Mary Jane Russell of Caribou, Maine; many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society (Research), 360 State Route 101, Bedford, N.H. 03110-5032. A memorial service will be held Nov. 8, 2000, at the First Parish Church, Congregational, of Dover, with the Rev. David L. Slater, pastor officiating. A celebration of his life will be held at his Merrymeeting Lake home in July 2001 with a pancake breakfast, for which he was well-known for hosting yearly.
