Description	:	Vaughn Hunter Keeler, 47, died Saturday, May 17, 1969 at 6:50 p.m. At his home 1210 E. Second, Ottumwa, following an illness of nine months. The son of John W. and Roxa R. Hunter Keeler, he was born July 15, 1921 at Keosauqua. A 1938 graduate of Fort Madison High School, he worked a short time for Sheaffer Pen Co. before entering the Army in World War II. Read More	Vaughn Hunter Keeler, 47, died Saturday, May 17, 1969 at 6:50 p.m. At his home 1210 E. Second, Ottumwa, following an illness of nine months. The son of John W. and Roxa R. Hunter Keeler, he was born July 15, 1921 at Keosauqua. A 1938 graduate of Fort Madison High School, he worked a short time for Sheaffer Pen Co. before entering the Army in World War II. He served 38 months in the office of General Doughlas MacArthur in the Philipines, as a stenograpgher. After the war, he attended Ottumwa Beauty Academy, graduating in 1947. He owned beauty shops in Leon and Bonaparte, returning to Ottumwa in 1953. In 1954 he started his own shop in Ottumwa at 107 1/2 S. Court. He was a past president of the local and state Hairdressers and Cosmetologists Association and was a vice president of the National Hairdressers and Cosmetologists Association. He was active in Ottumwa Community Players. He taught stenotyping classes at the Iowa Tech School before becoming ill. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Lyda Cornell of Fort Madison and Mrs. Leola Steinmeyer of Carthage, Ill.; one brother, Wayne Keeler of Fort Madison; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held Tuesday, May 20 at 1:30 p.m. At Trunity Episcopal Church. The pastor, the Rev. James Postel was assisted by the Rev. Richard Goins of the First Christian Church. Burial was in the Bonaparte Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Alfred Berger of Fair Lawn, N.J., president of the National Hairdressers and national board members. Active pallbearers were Richard Poindexter of Burlington, Sephen Stoltz, Paul Stoltz, Warren Roberts, John Frost and Harold Brinkopf. The family has established a memorial fund payable to the Cancer society.
