Velda was born on March 19, 1933 in Waverly, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Martha (Brandt) Lampe. She was united in marriage to Donald Schaefer on April 29, 1951 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Waverly. Donald died on September 5, 1993. She had worked for Stauffer Pharmacy in Waverly. She was co-owner and operator of "Things and More Things" in Waverly. She was the director of Mitchell Manor in Waverly for 25 years, which also included delivering Meals on Wheels.... She was united in marriage to Donald Schaefer on April 29, 1951 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Waverly. Donald died on September 5, 1993. She had worked for Stauffer Pharmacy in Waverly. She was co-owner and operator of "Things and More Things" in Waverly. She was the director of Mitchell Manor in Waverly for 25 years, which also included delivering Meals on Wheels. She retired on December 29, 1998. On January 23, 1999 she was united in marriage to Jim Darrah at the Velda Rose Methodist Church in Mesa, Arizona. After retirement Velda continued helping others by volunteering with the Cedar Valley Hospice. She had traveled across the United States and also traveled to Germany and Ireland. She enjoyed quilting, embroidering, and especially spending time with her friends and family. She was a member of the Amvets Auxiliary, W.I.T./ Busy Bee Winnies, Bluegrass (S.E.M.B.A.) and enjoyed the Red Hat Ladies. Velda was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Waverly. She is survived by her husband, Jim of Waverly; her daughter, Becky (Gene) Severson of Chatfield, Minnesota; her son, Alan Schaefer of Waverly, Iowa; Jim's children, Steve (Dawn) Darrah of Waverly, Iowa; Sherri (Steve) Dralle of Waverly, Iowa; Sandi (Rand E.) Renner of Waverly, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; two brothers, Wendell (Dorothy) Lampe of Waverly, Iowa; Kenneth (LaDonna) Lampe of Waverly, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Donald in 1993, two sisters, Arlene Beckel and Verla Broderson. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2007 at 10:30 am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly, Iowa. Family will greet friends an hour before services at the church. Velda's body was donated to Medical Research at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and there will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice, Waverly, Mitchell Manor, Waverly or to St.Paul's Lutheran Church.
