She was born February 13, 1924, in Genoa, Colorado, the daughter of Clarence and Alma Steggs. She graduated from high school in Alliance, Neb. and went on to attend nurses training at St. Joseph Nursing School in Alliance, where she served as a Cadet Nurse. She was born February 13, 1924, in Genoa, Colorado, the daughter of Clarence and Alma Steggs. She graduated from high school in Alliance, Neb. and went on to attend nurses training at St. Joseph Nursing School in Alliance, where she served as a Cadet Nurse. She was also certified as an American Red Cross Nurse. She married Charles Weber in Alliance on January 5, 1947. Velma worked as a registered nurse for over 30 years in various aspects of nursing. As her husband worked for the railroad, the family moved frequently, and her nursing career included work in Alliance, Ravenna, and Lincoln, Neb., Edgemont, S.D.; Vancouver, Wash.; Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; and finally retiring to Missoula. She was a Past Worthy Matron with the Order of Eastern Star, was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Eagle's Auxiliary and Burlington Northern Veterans, was involved in various Bible Studies and Discipleship Classes, United Methodist Church. She enjoyed collecting family history, genealogy, working with scrapbooks and photos and loved spending time with family, friends and loved ones. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and attending their various activities. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Her family includes sons, Ken Weber and his wife Susie of Avoca, Iowa; Lanny Weber and wife Nancy of Tualatin, Ore.; daughters, Kathryn Lobry and husband Robert, of Vancouver, Wash.; Sharon Sagehorn and husband Dave of Nickerson, Neb.; Linda Dameron and husband Robert of Missoula; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers Cleo Steggs and wife Deloris, and Harold Steggs and wife Idelle of Alliance; Melvin Steggs and wife Lois of York, Neb. and numerous nephew and nieces. Viewing will be at Bates-Gould Funeral Home in Alliance on Thursday, March 6, with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 7, at the United Methodist Church with the Reverend Jerry Mercer officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery.
