Read More	Imperial Republican 10 August 1989 "Velma Catherine Fanning Funeral Services Held Velma Catherine Fanning was born Jan. 16, 1906 to Charles S. and Minnie Ann Barnes, at Wauneta, NE., and died Aug 6, 1989, at her home in Imperial at the age of 83 years, 6 months and 20 days. She grew up and attended school in the Wauneta area. On Aug 7, 1926, she was united in marriage to Vern Raymond Fanning, at Holyoke, Colo. To this union were born two daughters, Betty and Kay, and three sons, Charles, Robert and Carl. The couple lived in the Wauneta area and were engaged in farming until they moved to Enders in 1945, and to a farm west of Champion in 1948. She moved to Imperial in 1974. Velma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vern, and son Charles. She is survived by her sons, Robert and wife Berniece of Wauneta, and Carl and wife Joanne of Soldotna, Alaska; daughters Kay and her husband Merlin Castle of Imperial, and Betty and her husband, Frank Kraxberger of Soldotna, Alaska; daughter-in-law Ruth Fanning of Florence, Ore.; sister Viola Fletcher, 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. Services for Velma Fanning were held at 10 a.m. Aug. 8, 1989 in Imperial at the United Methodist church with Pastor Karl Lent officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Oneta Silvester and Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Bauerle. Escorts were Tom Elder, Larry Schilke, Carl Stafford, Kermit Kuecker, Wayne Schilke and Russell Goddard. Honorary escorts were Mearl Castle, Irvin Jones, Bill Silvester, O.C. Dart, Max Kunkel and Don Welch. Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Imperial. Creveling Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements."
