Vern Raymond Fanning, son of Frank and Elizabeth Fanning, was born February 13, 1906 at Wauneta, Nebraska, and departed this life November 8, 1967, at the Imperial Hospital, at the age of 61 years, 8 months, and 26 days. He grew to manhood and attended school in the Wauneta area. August 7, 1926, he was united in marriage to Velma Catherine Barnes, at Holyoke, Colorado. The couple lived in the Wauneta area and were engaged in farming, until they moved to Enders in 1945 and then to the present home west of Champion in 1948. To this union were born two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Betty) Kraxberger of Soldotna, Alaska, Mrs. Merlin (Kay) Castle of Imperial; threes sons, Charles of Florence, Oregon, Robert of Wauneta, and Carl of Denver. Mr. Fanning was preceeded (sic)in death by his parents, and three sisters and three brothers. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Velma, sons and daughters, daughters-in-law Ruth, Berniece, and Joanne; sons-in-law Frank Kraxberger, and Merlin Castle; sisters Eva Maddux and Laura Wheeler of Wauneta, a brother Cleo of Lincoln, 15 grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, November 11, at two o'clock at the Methodist Church in Imperial, with Rev. Ralph Miller and Rev. Richard Deems, officiating. Musicians were Mrs. Oneta Silvester, and Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Bauerle. Casket bearers were Mearl Castle, Irvin Jones, Leroy Fuehrer, Leo Hink, Fred Statz and Carl Stafford. Interment was at Mount Hope Cemetery with Luhrs and Reynolds in charge of arrangements."
