Online condolences may be made to the family at www.henderosnbarkerfuneralhome.com. Velma was born October 19, 1938 in Cedar Valley, Iowa the daughter of Dean and Oldys (Swalley) Stafford. She was a graduate of the last graduating class at Springdale High School in the Class of 1956. On March 23, 1958 she was united in marriage to M. Joe Stiff in Rochester, Iowa. What Velma enjoyed most was being a wife, mother, and matriarch of her family. She also managed Stiff Cabins from 1976 until 1997, which included 20 cabins on the Cedar River. With her husband, she owned and operated Joe's Trucking and Backhoe. More recently, Velma worked for the West Liberty Community School District's lunch program. She was a tireless volunteer in the community, serving in many roles; Girl Scout Leader, West Liberty Recycling Program in its early years, Simpson Memorial Home BINGO and the RSVP Ride program in West Liberty. She attended church at the West Liberty United Methodist Church where she also served as a Sunday School Teacher. Survivors include her three daughters, Myrna Kirkpatrick, Tracy Peters both of West Liberty, Iowa, Kara Dennis of Morton, Illinois and one son Aaron of Kansas City, Missouri. Six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Her twin sister Elma Woodcock of Littleton, Colorado also survives. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe, brother Donald Stafford and a sister Mary Telsrow.
