Velma, daughter of Bundy W. and Nelle Marshall Johnson was born December 14,1928 in Quincy, Kansas, where she grew up and graduated from Quincy High School in 1946. Read More	Velma Nelle Johnson Rogers, age86, of Chanute, Kansas passed away Monday, March 2, 2015, at Heritage Health Care of Chanute, surrounded by her family. Velma, daughter of Bundy W. and Nelle Marshall Johnson was born December 14,1928 in Quincy, Kansas, where she grew up and graduated from Quincy High School in 1946. She attended Emporia State Teachers College from 1946-47. After graduating she taught at a one-room schoolhouse near Fall River, Kansas. When a young man just home from the service went to check out the new schoolteacher, Richard W. Rogers and Velma were soon married on December 7, 1947. Richard and Velma made their home in Wichita where Velma worked at Boeing as a data tech making $1.75 an hour until Richard was transferred to Humboldt, Kansas with KG&E. Velma returned to College and received her degree from Kansas State College of Pittsburg Kansas in 1986. After Graduation she taught English for 3 years at Humboldt High School. Velma was an accomplished piano player and taught Piano and Accordion lessons for many years. She loved singing, reading, and gardening. Velma attended the First Presbyterian Church in Humboldt until its closing then attended the Methodist Church in Humboldt. In 2009 Velma moved to Chanute and attended 1st United Methodist Church of Chanute. She was a member of the Builders Sunday School Class. Velma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Richard W. in 1996, a daughter Dorothy Jean (Rogers) Woods in 1989 and two brothers Howard, and Wesley Johnson. Survivors include her daughter; Shirley Rogers-Naff and husband Jim of Chanute, grandsons; Jerrod Richard Naff and wife Rachael, great-granddaughters; Kyleigh, Zoey, Katherine, and Helayna of Joplin, Mo., grandson; Clayton Gene Naff of Chanute, granddaughter; Tracy (Woods) Zon and husband Jeff, great grandson Dewayne Bailey and wife Candy of Seattle, Washington, and a sister Vera Belle Spicer of Chanute, Kansas.
