It appears that this family used both the spellings of Elkin and Elkins. -------------- Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” Thursday, July 31, 1969, Page 7: Mrs. Thomas DaVolt Mrs. Venice DaVolt, 71, formerly of Ottumwa, died at Pomona Valley Hospital in Pomona, Calif. At 6 a.m. Wednesday. She had resided in California since 1956. She was born June 25, 1898 in Ottumwa, the daughter of William and Mary Eakins Elkins. She married Thomas A. DaVolt on April 7, 1916 in Ottumwa. He preceded her in death on Nov. 20, 1956. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Blumer, Mrs. Louva Benson and Mrs. Doris Johnson, all of California and Mrs. Joan Vaughn of Cedar Rapids; one son, Robert of California; one grandson, Gary DaVolt, whom she raised in her home and several other grandchildren; one brother, Robert Elkins of Ottumwa; three sisters, Mrs. Etta Wintermote of Bloomfield, Mrs. Edith Morrow of Kansas City, and Mrs. Orlee Fuller of Ottumwa. She was also preceded in death by three children in infancy and three brothers. The body will be returned late Friday to Johnson Funeral Chapel where arrangements are pending. “DaVolt Rites,” From “Ottumwa Courier,” Saturday, August 2, 1969, Page 10: Funeral services for Mrs. Venice DaVolt, 71, formerly of Ottumwa, will be held at Johnson Funeral Chapel at 1:30 p.m. Monday. The Rev. A.D. Pringle of the Ottumwa Baptist Temple, will officiate. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Mrs. DaVolt died Wednesday at Pamona [sic] Valley Hospital in Pamona [sic], Calif. Pallbearers are Lester Black, Walter Selix, Junior Moore, Donald, Paul and Rex Wintermote. The casket has arrived at the funeral home.
