Venla was born on May 10, 1932, on a farm in Sherman County, northeast of Hazard, Nebraska, the third of four children born to Lawrence and Alma (Beethe) de la Motte. Read More	Venla Lucille Bartels, 88 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Venla was born on May 10, 1932, on a farm in Sherman County, northeast of Hazard, Nebraska, the third of four children born to Lawrence and Alma (Beethe) de la Motte. Venla was baptized June 10, 1932 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hazard and was confirmed on May 12, 1946 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ravenna, Nebraska. Venla attended Hazard Public Schools graduated with the class of 1950, the last class to graduate from Hazard High School. On December 2, 1951, Venla was united in marriage to Delbert L. Bartels, at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Minden, Nebraska. The couple made their home at Hildreth, Nebraska. God blessed this union with five children: Sharon, Johnny, Larry, Michael, and Rodney. They farmed there for ten years, before they sold out and moved to Wilcox and later moved Holdrege. Venla worked as a housekeeper in the cleaning and laundry department for Phelps Memorial Health Center for 18 years. Venla was a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege and the Martha Society. She has been a Lutheran her entire life. Venla has always been interested in sports and never missed watching her children and grandchildren play. She was always watching or listening to the Huskers and Dusters especially. In 2009, due to declining health Delbert and Venla moved to Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege. She was preceded in death by; her parents; her husband Delbert Bartels; sister, Jeanet Myers and her husband Ralph; and two brothers, DeWane de la Motte; Charles de la Motte and his wife Dorothy; one grandson, Colt Ray Bartels; six sisters-in-law and their husbands: Clara and Louie Custer; Marie and Carl Troester; Hildagard and Walter Meyer; Lena and Alvin Parkhurst; Charlotte and Clarence Rutt; and Louise and Harold Stone; two brothers-in-law: Ernest Bartels; and Walter and Frieda Bartels. Venla is survived by: her daughter, Sharon Sherbert and her husband, Michael of Minden, Nebraska; four sons: Johnny Bartels of Omaha, Nebraska; Larry Bartels and his wife, Ann of Bertrand, Nebraska; Michael Bartels and his wife, Julie of Ragan; Rodney Bartels and his wife, Tori of Holdrege; grandchildren: Jennifer and John Sherbert, Cody Bartels and his wife, Ashley and Blake Bartels and his wife, Samantha; Trenton Bartels and his friend Joan Johnson, and Jamelle Bartels and her fiancé, Ryan Brooks; Christina Oldfather and her husband, David, Cacy Fletcher and her husband, Troy, Stephani Salmon and her husband, Dana and Staci Bartels; Bill Schroder, Tasha Tiller and her husband Gabriel, and Clynt Schroder and his wife, Katherine; 24 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends
