Audubon County Journal (IA) Thursday, May 4, 1899, pg. 4 NEWS OF HAMLIN Mrs. Nettie Cook, from Exira, was among the mourners who attended the funeral of Baby Hopkins, at the Station, Tuesday forenoon. After struggling with whooping cough for three or four weeks pneumonia set in, and its ravages was more than the nature of Baby Hopkins could stand and it closed its eyes to this world on Sunday evening, April 30, 1899. Tuesday forenoon Rev. Connor preached the funeral sermon at the Evangelical church, in Hamlin, after which a long line of carriages containing sorrowing relatives and friends wound its way over the hill in the direction of the Exira Cemetery, where the remains of the little one were laid to rest. Thus has another mother's heart been saddened by the loss of her loved one, and there is a " loud lonesomeness " and a deep hush about the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wils Hopkins since baby went away. But brighter than the gleaming of a star is the promise that when this life and its trials are ended we may all meet over yonder on the other side where death does not enter and happiness reigns throughout all eternity. Which more blest? God knoweth best. We greet with smiles the one who comes Like sunshine to our heart and homes, And reach out longing hands, with tears, To her who in her early years Goes glady to her heavenly rest,-- God knoweth best. She guards the gates--we need not dread The paths these little feet must tread, Nor fear for her, who from our sight Passed through them to the realms of light, Both in His loving caro we rest.-- God knoweth best. --SELECTED. -------- Another little babe has gone To dwell with Him who gave.
