Pratt, youngest daughter of Oliver and Alice Pratt, died at her father's home, 21/2 miles southwest of this city, on the 31st day of August, 1896, after a severe illness of two weeks. She had been suffering through the summer from the effects of hemorrhage of the lungs in the spring,but her final illness was malaria fever. Pratt, youngest daughter of Oliver and Alice Pratt, died at her father's home, 21/2 miles southwest of this city, on the 31st day of August, 1896, after a severe illness of two weeks. She had been suffering through the summer from the effects of hemorrhage of the lungs in the spring,but her final illness was malaria fever. She has lived here the greater part of her life, having moved here with her parents March 6th, 1884. She has made many friends who mourn her untimely death. The deceased was born at Monticello, Green Co., Wis., January 8th, 1879, and at her death was 17 years, 7 months and 23 days. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. D. B. Anderson, of Wilton Junction, Ia., who is a personal friend of the family and beloved by the deceased. The remains were laid to rest in the beautiful Masonic cemetery (The City of the Dead.) The charnel house in which the remains are sleeping was profusely decorated and strewn with flowers from nature's garden, tastefully arranged by lovings hands and sympathetic hearts. The costly casket containing the smiling but marble features in the sweet sleep of the grave was laid to rest in a bed of the most beautiful wreaths of flowers that loving hearts and tender hands could devise. The remains were followed to the grave from the house by 75 carriages all occupied by sympathizing neighbors and friends. As we stood beside the casket we were reminded of the grey truth of the poet: Ah, lovely appearance of death, What sight upon earth is so fair; None, all the gay Pagans that breathe, Can say with a dead body compare. Her death was so peaceful. She sang a verse spoke the following words of comfort to the family: "Its hard to part with you all, but oh, how beautiful and lovely it is to die," then with a long good bye she fell asleep in the arms of her blessed Jesus. Dearest Vera, thou hast left us, And thy loss we deeply feel, But 'tis God that hast bereft us. He can all our sorrows heal. Yet agin, we hope to meet thee, When the day of life has fled, Then in Heaven with joy to greet thee, Where no farewell tear is shed.
