Description	:	Vera Louise Conant was born April 14, 1911 at Flanagan, Illinois. She was the daughter of Harm C. Hansen and Emma (Jenkins) Hansen. When Vera was four years old, the family moved to Paton. There Vera attended school and graduated from Paton High School in 1929. At the age of 23, on August 4, 1933, Vera was united in marriage to Howard D. Conant at Fort Dodge. They became the parents of three children. She was the daughter of Harm C. Hansen and Emma (Jenkins) Hansen. When Vera was four years old, the family moved to Paton. There Vera attended school and graduated from Paton High School in 1929. At the age of 23, on August 4, 1933, Vera was united in marriage to Howard D. Conant at Fort Dodge. They became the parents of three children. In 1940 Vera and Howard moved to their farm south of Jefferson. Vera was a homemaker and active farm wife. She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Jefferson. In April of this year Vera became a resident at the long term care unit of Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson. There she died June 7, 1998. She was 87 years old and had been a native and longtime resident of Greene County. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband who died in 1966; two brothers, Raymond and Wayne Hansen; one sister, Mabel Muench, and two sisters in infancy, Eliza and Rosa. Survivors include one daughter, Jeanette Walker of Jefferson; two sons, Roger Conant and his wife Sharon of Cooper, and Jerry Conant of Brookings, OR; two sisters, Maxine Clark of Guthrie Center and Hazel Condit of Jefferson; a sister-in-law, Alice Hansen, of Paton; six grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Services were held Wednesday, June 10 from the Slininger-Rossow Chapel in Jefferson. Dr. Richard Glasgow, pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Jefferson, officiated. Jan Ellingson was soloist. Honorary casket bearers were Jodi Paup, Connie Walker, and Joanna Neff. Casket bearers were Rhonda and Jon Clark, Aaron and Rodney Walker, Kevin Neff, and Chad Paup. Interment was in Paton Township Cemetery at Paton. Memorials may be given to Christian Radio KFGQ, 924 West Second Street in Boone, Iowa 50036.
