Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Central City with the Rev. Tom Lucas officiating. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery. Vera Mae was born on Oct. 17, 1927, to Henry and Lorna (Lewis) Hagen in Palmer. She attended rural schools. In 1940, she and her four sisters moved to Central City to finish their schooling. Vera married Donald R. Christensen on June 10, 1945, in South Dakota, and they had four sons: Dennis, Kenneth, Gary and Richard. The couple spent most of their married life around Central City except for a few years in Wood River and Marquette. Vera worked for Central City Public Schools as a cook for 29 years. Nine of those years, she served as head cook. Vera loved being around and serving the children at the school. Don died on Jan. 19, 1984. Unfortunately, Don and Vera’s son Dennis died four years later on the same day as Don. On Oct. 25, 1985, Vera married Robert R. Craig in Grand Island. Vera retired from the school in 1997. Vera loved to fish, especially fishing trips to Merritt as a family. She also loved the big group of friends they met at Merritt. She enjoyed working in the garden and especially having family come to her home. Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Gary (Michele) Christensen and Richard Christensen; one sister, Doris Wells of Grand Island; many nieces and nephews; two granddaughters, one great-grandson and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Donald R. Christensen and Robert Craig; two sons, Dennis Christensen and Kenneth Christensen; three sisters, Leona Moon, Viola Albright and Nelda Campbell Briggs.
