Vera Pillen was born April 24, 1934, in Turton, S.D., to George and Anna Mae (Conley) Pembroke. She graduated from Turton High School and received her teaching certificate from Northern State College in Aberdeen, S.D. Vera married Rolland T. Grohs on Feb. 4, 1956, in Turton, S.D. Following his death on July 21, 1977, she later married Dale D. Pillen on Nov. 21, 1984, at St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus. Vera worked as a teacher, bookkeeper & secretary retiring from NPPD in 1996. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and St. Joseph Church in Platte Center. She is survived by her daughter, Natalie (Ron) Kenkel of Omaha; daughter, Kim (Brian) Kruger of Glenview, Ill.; daughter, Stephanie (John) Richardson of Brunswick, Me; daughter, Melissa (Jeff) Lowe of St. Louis, Mo.; stepson, Tom (Debbie) Pillen of Columbus; stepson, Jim (Suzanne) Pillen of Columbus; stepson, Clete (Christine) Pillen of Columbus; brother, Robert (Jeanette) Pembroke of Mobridge, S.D.; 12 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews & friends. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Rolland Grohs; second husband, Dale Pillen; father, George Pembroke; mother, Anna Mae Pembroke; four sisters, and one brother. Memorials may be directed to Scotus Central High School or the Douglas County Health Center (4102 Woolworth Ave; Omaha, NE 68105)
