Vera Hopkins was born June 25, 1898, at Ruby, WI, the daughter of Fowler and Ida Hopkins. She attended schools in Wisconsin, Minnesota and North Dakota. She married Ernest Waldusky September 15 1916 at Sidney. They lived at Charbonneau, ND, for two years before moving to the Broadus area. He died in 1924. In 1926 she married Kenneth Elkins at Coalwood and lived on the East Fork of Little Powder River. He died in 1932. She married Hiram Mahoney of Bay Horse and Little Powder River, at Red Wing, MN in 1942. He died in 1963. She ranched and worked at cafes in Broadus to raise and educate her children. Her hobbies were nature walks, organ playing and singing, and visiting with friends and family. She moved to the Whitefish area in 1953, ranching with her son, Edwin Elkins. Since early in 1972 she had been confined to rest homes in Miles City and Broadus. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jim (Betty) Sanburn, Bay Horse and Mrs. Marvin (Aurise) Jones, Belle Creek; three sons, Durward Waldusky of Broadus, Donald Waldusky, Whitefish and Edwin Elkins, Clearmont, WY; eight step-children, Margie Phillippi of Hammond, Donald Mahoney, Broadus, Evelyn Hopkins, Lindsey, MT, Jean Sterling, Broadus, Bill Elkins of New York State, Lois Smith of Pennsylvania, Kenneth Elkins of Maryland and Nan Talkington of Olney, MT; one sister, Mrs. Jessie Shivers of Brighton, CO; fourteen grandchildren and eighteen great-great grandchildren. Also numerous nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren. Casket bearers were Leland Cook, Tom Wetherelt, Johnny Jones, Joe McDowell, Don Heidel, and Ed Portwine who replaced Harold Miller. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery. Lunch was served to the family and friends at Jean's Montana Café.
