Description	:	Verda Magdalena Englund was born on August 31, 1917 in Bertrand, Nebraska, second of four children born to Harry and Anna Marie (Gerdau) Schult and passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at the Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington, Nebraska at the age of 94 years, 6 months and 11 days. Verda attended school in Bertrand and graduated from Bertrand High School with the class of 1937. She also attended a semester of college at Kearney State Teachers College. Verda was employed as a rural school teacher for 4 years. On August 31, 1941 she was united in marriage to Melvin A. Englund and to this union two sons were born: Melvin Leroy and Richard Duane. The family lived in Holdrege where they farmed until retirement. Verda worked as a Nurses Aid and Monitor for Methodist Memorial Homes for 11 years. Verda attended Mt Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege where she was active in their Bible Studies. She also was also involved in extension clubs, birthday clubs, and the Martha Society. Verda was preceded in death by: husband, Melvin Englund, Sr., sister, Dorothy Priel and brother, Leonard A. Schult. Verda is survived by her sons: Melvin Englund, Jr. and his wife, Linda of Kearney, Nebraska, Richard Englund and his wife, Doreen of Doniphan, Nebraska; five grandchildren, along with great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Interment was in the Prairie Home Cemetery, Holdrege, NE.
