Vern Anton Domeier was born to Mayne (Everts) Domeier on November 30, 1918, on a farm near Shickley, Nebraska. He passed away Thursday, June 24, 2010, at the Fillmore County Hospital at the age of 91 years. He was one of five children in the family. He became a child of God through Holy Baptism on December 22, 1918, and was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grafton on June 4, 1933. Vern attended Country School in Fillmore County, graduating from Geneva High School with the class of 1935, after which he began farming west of Geneva. He was united in marriage to Zeola Buroughs of Sutton on March 8, 1942, and was blessed with three sons. Vern was a lifelong farmer, raising crops, cattle, and hogs. He found much enjoyment from his registered Angust cattle business, calling it Verola Angus Farms - a combination of Vern and Zeola's first names. Vern served as an officer and elder in Trinity Luthern Church. He held the first organizational meeting for the Fillmore County Farm Bureau in his home with seven men present and then served as their president for ten years. He was a director and later served as president of the Nebraska Angus Association. He was recognized as the top Stock-Grower of Nebraska in 1962 by the Nebraska Stock Growers Association and as the Top Beef Producer in Nebraska in 1965 by Al-Sar-Ben. In 2006, the couple received a "Pioneer Producer" award from the Nebraska Angus Assocation. His greatest reward from the business, however, came from the lifelong friendships that the family made. He always grew a big garden and shared the produce with family and friends. Vern was preceded in death by his parents Anton and Mayne and brothers Dwayne and Dean. He is survived by his wife Zeola of Geneva; sons Vaughn and wife Judith of Sutton, Rodney and wife Cherie of Sutton, and William & wife Pamela of Lenexa, Kansas; sisters Deloris Mick of Sutton and Florence Schroder of Grand Island; sister-in-law Delores Domeier of Grand Island; five grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral services for Vern were held on Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at 2:00 p.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Grafton with Pastor Stephen Kruschel officiating. Susan Baumann accompanied the congregation in the singing of "What A Friend We Have In Jesus," "Precious Lord, Take My Hand," and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives." Casket bearers were Aaron Baumann, Jim Baumann, Eugene Hinze, Elden Luethke, Jim Oberlander, and Jerry Otte. Interment was in the Grafton Cemetery with Farmer & Son Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Memorials are directed to the Trinity Lutheran Church.
